Balboa Park in San Diego

Be sure to plan a day trip to Balboa Park when you stay

The historic Balboa Park is a 1,200-acre park on the outskirts of downtown San Diego. Home to the world-famous San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park also houses the San Diego Natural History Museum, Old Globe Theater, Balboa Park Carousel and more. Host to the 1915-16 Panama-California Exposition, Balboa Park is in preparations for the 2015 Centennial Celebrations. According to the San Diego Balboa Park Centennial 2015 website, the year of festivities will highlight “San Diego’s intellectual capital, imaginative spirit and exceptional quality of life.”

Entry to Balboa Park is free, while fees may apply to various attractions. The Explorer Pass was recently introduced to make exploration easier in Balboa Park. One-day passes are available that give visitors access to 5 museums. An annual pass is also available. Park at Balboa Park is available, but at peak times can be difficult to find. The park is accessible by Trolley.
